These traits are exclusive to the saltwater leech monster class
as a reminder, saltwater leeches can have normal traits- They just have their own exclusive ones on top of that.

Saltwater class are bred to exhibit very specific and impressive traits, here are some of the most well known and sought after varieties!
1. These traits are optional
2. These traits can be mixed and matched (Lantern + Glow spots/ Flower horn + Rostrum/etc)
3. Some of these traits have varied forms/shapes

Trait lore
Hammer-head: The hammerhead saltie uses its uniquely shaped head to track down small prey and scraps which have sunken down to the bottom. Their heads are extremely sensitive to vibrations, and tapping on their glass enclosure will severely piss them off. Try tapping the glass to get them to spatially swim around and show off their awesome teeth! Remember though, salties have been known to break too thinly made glass.

Lantern: The lantern trait is a complex antenna ear which sports a glow sack at the tip of it. A saltie can only have one, it only grows on the head/top of the neck and the antenna can't be longer than illustrated! Similarly to the angler fish, the leech uses it to attract prey. Lantern salties prefer the dark and it is claimed that you can tell what mood it is in by how intensely the lantern glows!

Rostrum: The rostrum is a mighty feat achieved through selective breeding; Its an elongated upper lip that's lined with sharp spines. Similarly to the hammerhead trait, the rostrum is very sensitive to vibrations and is mainly used to comb the water for bits of meat. Although its an impressive snoot, it does make it hard for the leech to hunt using its mouth and so it resolves to thwacking and tearing at its prey with its rostrum- Not a pleasant way to go for sure.

Flowerhorn: This magnificent bulbous mass comes in many sizes and usually sports beautiful dappled markings that are reminiscent of a coral. The saltie doesn't seem too bothered by it, its actually quite the opposite! Most flowerhorn salties seem quite proud of their horns. The horn's density varies and it can be soft like a mass or hard like a rock.

Goblin mouth: The goblin mouth is the mutation rostrum branched from. It is an elongated lip but it comes with a twist; A dislodgeable jaw! From looking quite normal the saltie can quickly dislodge its jaw and hurl it at unsuspecting prey, catching small fishes in one gulp! The snout itself is built from weak cartilage so it is mostly used for intimidation rather than fighting.

Needle teeth: A sought after trait for owners, less so for the leeches. The needle teeth are a mutation of saw teeth in which the teeth grow in separate, crooked and incredibly sharp forms. Needle teeth make ripping up and holding onto prey very easy, but letting it go or trying to get it into the throat... not so much. Regardless of how easy it is to use, everyone agrees it sure does look gnarly!

Garden fweeps: These parasites are not unheard of, but instead of replacing the tongue they live in a saltwater leeche's gills or pores. Garden fweeps can easily retreat back into the pores when they sense danger, or come out when they smell bits of food in the vicinity. They're pretty useful parasites in the sense that they can clean the saltie's skin of grime and other parasites. Garden fweeps can't look other than how they're illustrated, but they can have all sorts of markings and color schemes!

Telescope eyes: A pretty common trait and one of the first existing saltie modifications, but its a fan favorite nonetheless! The telescope trait is two see-all eyes protruding from oversized sockets, they don't cause the saltie any pain but it seems like they leave less space for the brain, resulting in a more tame and less spacially aware leech. Since its just see-all eyes, they can have all sorts of unique patterns!

Suckerfish: Organisms that exist in a symbiotic relationship with the saltwater class leech. These creatures can be found cleaning many different types of large marine creatures and saltwater leeches are no exception! Although they're more typically found on saltwater leeches living in the wild, sometimes breeders will introduce them to their tank as decorative fish! Suckerfish can be drawn in many different ways and different species exist, feel free to experiment when designing your own!  (The suckerfish shouldn't be larger than illustrated and while you can try various designs, you gotta keep em simple!)

Mouthweb: An expanded mouth lining which aids in startling and capturing prey. It usually has a bright contrasting color palette which makes it sought out after by breeders and collectors alike!

Glow sack: Glow sacks are skin pouches that are filled with bioluminescent liquid. Similarly to the croaker neck, they can expand and retract at the saltie's will. Glow sacks can appear in different spots and in different sizes, but only around the neck and head!
